1 acre food forest

Gates Foundation

Through a Gates Foundation–supported project, we are applying a climate–gender lens to a proven one-acre agroecology model, working exclusively with women farmers as leaders of climate-resilient agriculture. In line with global commitments such as the UNFCCC Gender Action Plan and emerging climate-gender investing practice, which recognize women as critical yet under-resourced agents of climate action, our program tackles the structural barriers women face in accessing land, inputs, finance, and extension services. By combining knowledge, resources, and strong local women’s institutions, we are making agroecology a pathway for both livelihood security and gender-equitable climate solutions.

People for progress of India

PPI’s support will enable the raising of 27,000 native saplings in a local nursery and their planting at a density of 215–250 saplings per acre, following a three-year cycle: Year 1 for watershed and land preparation, followed by staggered plantation in Years 2 and 3. The project will use a carefully curated mix of native species—60% forest trees, 20% fruit and income-generating species, and 20% medicinal and endangered species—well-suited to moist deciduous forests. This intervention is designed for dual impact: rejuvenating the environment by enhancing biodiversity, improving groundwater levels and strengthening soil health, while also providing employment to villagers who will gain livelihoods through activities such as sapling plantation, fireline creation, watershed management and other project funds linked to government schemes.

Capital Cares

Capital Care’s support for general operating costs reflects a deep belief that people are at the heart of lasting change. The community-led transformation Raah works towards—across gender equity, livelihoods, and ecological sustainability—relies on strong teams, trusted relationships, and resilient systems, not project funding alone. Investing in people through general operating support is therefore not overhead, but a meaningful commitment to sustaining impact. As Raah grows, similar value-aligned support from other donors will be essential to nurture and deepen the change we seek to enable.
